2014 Golf Season is Here

As I was shoveling ten inches of snow this morning in New Jersey I was thinking about this blog post and the beginning of the PGA Tour Season today in Hawaii.  After finishing my year-end wrap up on the 2013 season I feel like we can now focus on what lies ahead for us golf fans in the 2014 calender year.  Now I know the PGA Tour has created its wrap around version of their playing season but we all like to think Hawaii and the Tournament of Champions starts things up.

There certainly was plenty of news to take in over the holidays.  First congrats to Rory, DJ and Paula Creamer who all got engaged.  Maybe some victories will follow?  Wonder what being married will do for Natalie Gulbis’s game in 2014?

The obligatory questions are out there in print and online about Tiger winning another major and Phil finally getting his U.S.Open title for the career slam.  I am really interested to see how the U.S. Open will operate at Pinehurst #2 on consecutive weeks.

Ernie Els switched equipment companies to Adams Golf in 2014.  It is always interesting to see what players changed equipment companies.  Those players usually stick out on the telecast because something just doesn’t look right to us when we see them.  Ping has their version of the adjustable driver in play this week, the Ping i25.   Maybe Ping can cut into the Taylor Made/ Titleist Driver market?

The one thing we will be seeing more of this season is the constant impact social media will have upon the golf telecast.  We see it already with viewers picking a pairing in Hawaii at the TOC.

Let me be one of the early ones to jump on the wagon of our Ryder Cup team.  I really love this event and hope to get to one some day.  The reaction of picking Tom Watson will have a ripple effect this year in the chatter of who he should take?   Look at the hungry players who may not have won yet, but will fight you to the death for a match play victory.

So it is time to tee it up and begin the 2014 portion of the PGA Tour season.  Let’s  hope that weather isn’t the story as it was in over 20 events last year.
