The first two events of the FedEx Cup are in the books and Chris Kirk is at the top of the leader board.  Chris Kirk played some inspired golf in the final two rounds this Labor Day weekend.  Kirk’s last two rounds of 64 and 66 besting the number one player in the world, Rory McIlroy.  McIlroy had a front seat view of the clutch play of Kirk as they were paired together both Sunday and Monday.  This was Chris Kirk’s first win this calendar year.  Kirk hadn’t even made a top 10 in a Major, Players or WGC event this season.  One thing Chris Kirk did this year was to accumulate 11 top 25 finished, collect $4.4 million and finish 14th on the Ryder Cup points list.  Flat out this young man can play and will turn plenty of heads if Captain Tom Watson picks him tonight on the 2014 Ryder Cup team.

A funny thing happened to me last week when I was working the chipping area at The Barclays.  I had a conversation with Chris Kirk’s caddie.  He told me flat out if Kirk had made the cut and finished better at the PGA, he probably would had made the USA Ryder Cup team outright.  Kirk started the Deutsche Bank Championship ranked 17th in the FedEx Cup and now sits in the top spot after collecting his $1.4 million this weekend and looks pretty good to get into one of the top spots to win the FedEx Cup at the Tour Championship.  Soon the question of if Kirk has done enough to get picked for the USA Squad will be answered.
