Jimmy Walker Makes It Three Wins

Jimmy Walker collected his third win this PGA Tour season with a one shot victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend.  What made this victory really interesting is that at one point of his back nine Walker held a six shot lead and was cruising along.  He had made only three bogeys for the whole event when he stepped onto the 11th tee.  Walker birdied #11, then bogeyed #12 and #13.  Now the field was smelling blood in the water.  With Lift, Clean and Place the rule of the day at Pebble Beach if you hit the fairway you could assure a terrific lie and really go for some of the flagsticks.  Jim Renner, Kevin Na and Jordan Speith were all looking to catch Walker at the end but only Dustin Johnson had an eagle putt on the #18 to get to 11-under for the tournament but settled for birdie.

Dustin Johnson made and eagle and seven birdies, but also made three bogeys to shot 66 and miss Walker by a shot.  Ahead by two shots  Jimmy Walker three-putted the 17th green for bogey and needed to make par on #18 to win at 11-under par.  Walker didn’t hit the fairway with his tee ball or second shot but managed to get the ball on the green and sink a five footer for his third win this season.  With this victory he joins David Duval, Phil and Tiger as the forth player to win three times in eight or fewer starts, pretty exclusive company.  Walker all but assures himself of a Ryder Cup spot as well.  I really hope there is more to write about  as his year continues, he is fun to watch play golf.
