Stallings Gets a Win At Torrey Pines

Scott Stallings held off a talented field at Torrey Pines to claim his third career PGA Tour victory this weekend.  Playing the par 5’s this Sunday at 3-under proved to be the right tonic as Stallings claimed the trophy by one shot over a hard charging field.  Five players tied for second place shooting 280 for the tournament at the North and South courses in La Jolla, CA.

After hitting just four fairways all day, Stallings came to the par 5 18th fairway with a 4 iron in his hands.  With water to clear and 222 yards away from the hole, Stallings second shot landed about 40 feet away from the flag.  He rolled in a two putt birdie to post 279 for the tournament.  Marc Leishman, Jason Day, Graham Delaet and Pat Perez all had chances to close the deal but all came up short.  Gary Woodland has to be just sick over his performance down the stretch.  On the 17th tee Woodland is one shot back of the leaders.  He hooks his tee shot and makes double bogey then par on the 18th to finish three shot back of Stallings.

Scott Stallings earned his PGA Tour Card in 2010 for the 2011 season and went on to win at the Greenbrier Classic on 2011 and again at the True South Classic in July of 2012.  Now his third win before turning 30.  Not bad for the former two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.

Kudos also go out to Sergio Garcia and Jess Korda who also got wins this weekend.  Sergio at the Qatar Masters.  Hard to believe Sergio is only 34 years old!  He survived a three hole playoff for the win.  Korda held off Stacey Lewis to grab the trophy in the Bahamas.
