Best of 2014 Golf Season

These are some of your best remarks along with some of my favorite moments from the 2014 golf season.   Jimmy Walker explodes on the scene winning at Pebble Beach and collecting a seasons worth of FedEx points early in the PGA’s first wrap around season. Paula Creamer holes out a 75 foot eagle putt to …

Ted Bishop Removed as President of PGA

Ted Bishop was removed as the 38th President this past Friday by the PGA of America Board of Directors for insensitive gender-based statements posted yesterday on social media. The Board deemed the remarks to be inconsistent with the policies of the PGA.  That was the jist of the email I received as a PGA Member …

Ryder Cup Fallout

My 16 year old son asked me why do we always loose the Ryder Cup?  I had to laugh when I explained that there was a time the U.S squad was the favorite and rolled over the Euro side.  Not anymore.  Oh how times have changed.  The Euro squad beat the U.S. side pretty soundly …

It’s Ryder Cup Time of Year

Finally it is time for the Ryder Cup to be played.  This event is one of the most exciting contests for me to watch as a PGA Golf Professional.  There are so many fond memories I have of the past 23 years of watching the Ryder Cup in the various golf shops.  I was first …

Chris Kirk on top of FedEx Cup at Halfway Point

The first two events of the FedEx Cup are in the books and Chris Kirk is at the top of the leader board.  Chris Kirk played some inspired golf in the final two rounds this Labor Day weekend.  Kirk’s last two rounds of 64 and 66 besting the number one player in the world, Rory McIlroy.  McIlroy had a front seat view of the clutch play of Kirk as they were paired together both Sunday and Monday.  This was Chris Kirk’s first win this calendar year.  Kirk hadn’t even made a top 10 in a Major, Players or WGC event this season.  One thing Chris Kirk did this year was to accumulate 11 top 25 finished, collect $4.4 million and finish 14th on the Ryder Cup points list.  Flat out this young man can play and will turn plenty of heads if Captain Tom Watson picks him tonight on the 2014 Ryder Cup team.

A funny thing happened to me last week when I was working the chipping area at The Barclays.  I had a conversation with Chris Kirk’s caddie.  He told me flat out if Kirk had made the cut and finished better at the PGA, he probably would had made the USA Ryder Cup team outright.  Kirk started the Deutsche Bank Championship ranked 17th in the FedEx Cup and now sits in the top spot after collecting his $1.4 million this weekend and looks pretty good to get into one of the top spots to win the FedEx Cup at the Tour Championship.  Soon the question of if Kirk has done enough to get picked for the USA Squad will be answered.

PGA Championship Week is Here.

When the calendar turns to August and the weather gets hot it can only mean the PGA Championship is right around the corner.  This also being a Ryder Cup year and adding in a condensed FedEx Cup final schedule should make the next six weeks a whirl wind of activity on the PGA Tour.  First …
