The Tour Championship Kick Off.
The Tour Championship is going on right now and the first group of Nick Whatney and John Huh will tee off at 11:45 am EST. All twosomes for this final FedEx Cup Championship event. Tiger and Justin Rose will go last at 2:05pm this afternoon. Both are tied for the lead at 4-under par. I was looking at the stats today and both Tiger and Justin made six birdies, ten pars and two bogeys. They also both putted only 26 times. Sean Foley just happens to work with both Tiger and Justin as their swing coach. So I would say things are trending in the right direction for Sean Foley and his stable of students. Include in that stable is also Hunter Mahan, he is just two shots back after the first round. The winner of the Tour Championship gets a check worth over $1.4 million. The overall winner of the FedEx Cup gets a $10 million check.
My favorite event in golf is closing in fast. The 39th Ryder Cup is next weekend at Medinah CC in Chicago. I can only imagine how the players who are participating in both the Tour Championship this week and Ryder Cup next week are dealing with all the excitement. The Tour Championship is a huge paycheck and wonderful honor to win knowing you played strong for a solid months worth of events in the FedEx Cup. The players also know that Coca-Cola is a terrific sponsor and want to give them a exciting finish. The Ryder Cup is another animal all together. Every other year the Cup is up for grabs and you have to earn your way on to a team of your contemporaries and play for a single cause, not your own score. The Ryder Cup has grown so much in the last 20 years and has become so much fun to watch if you are a fan of the game.
